In our first contest in 1996, 44 countries with a total of 45 issuing Authorities took part. International Jury awarded Denmark, Switzerland and Iceland with respectively the Gold, the Silver and the Bronze award. Each Certificate was accompanied by a painting which is an enlarged copy of the awarded bank note.

Dr. Milton Friedman, Nobel Prize Laureate 1976 with Denmark 1000 Kroner note (on the table) which won the Gold Award and a painting depicting the 5.000 Kroner bank note of Iceland. This note won the Bronze Award. This photograph was taken on the island of Bali where this painting was produced by the internationally renowned painter, I Made Sama who is specialized in paper money reproductions.
